Shawn Loughrige has been working in law enforcement for nearly 30 years and is currently serving both law enforcement and the civil sector. His passion to serve people is at the forefront of who Shawn is. From the time he patrolled the streets as a city of Melvindale police officer to his final position as the Statewide Commander of the Michigan State Police’s Biometrics and Identification Division – Investigative Services Section, his investigative abilities and polygraph expertise have propelled him to be known as one of the best in the state. Shawn Loughrige recently retired from the Michigan Department of State Police after 25 years of service and just over 30 years of service to the law enforcement community. I have worked with Shawn in the Forensic Science Division of the MSP for over 20 years and have personally observed him become the state’s foremost authority in the area of interview and interrogation, polygraph, violent crime investigations, and criminal profiling. As the previous Statewide Program Coordinator for the Forensic Science Division and Statewide Commander of the Biometrics and Identification Division-Investigative Section, his responsibilities included writing the policy and procedures for MSP Polygraph Unit and was involved in legislative appropriations for his sections in pursuit of providing an innovative path forward for the state of Michigan’s Biometric and Identification Section. As a retiree, Shawn brings all these skills and expertise to the civil arena, further expanding his ability to assist private investigators, attorneys, and private individuals with any type of case. In closing, Shawn has a tenacious pursuit for the truth and his professionalism and integrity is above reproach.
I had the honor of working with Shawn during his tenure as Commander of the MSP Investigative Services Section which encompassed both the Polygraph Unit and the Criminal Investigative Analysis Unit (CIAU). Personnel from both units, in conjunction with two departmental psychologists, comprised the Behavioral Assessment Team where I served as coordinator. Shawn was not only our leader, but a member of the team. His vast experience in polygraph and human behavior made him an exceptional, and tenacious criminal investigator. His compassion and desire to do what is right, even when it is difficult to do so, made him an exceptional leader.
